Diary of a Fat Woman

Welcome to my blog.

Before I start spilling my guts, standing on soap boxes, dishing out a few cents worth of advice you may or may not have asked for, laughing, crying and all things in between I should introduce myself and explain just why I’m here.

The name’s Bonnie. I’m a thirty-two year old, disabled BBW in the beginning process of having the lap-band weight loss surgery.

I’ve been “pleasantly plump” most of my life but after having been in a wheelchair (spinal issues) for a few years my weight has steadily increased. I considered both the gastric bypass and the lap-band for some time but didn’t really pursue either seriously until my mother, due to medical reasons, was told she needed to have weight loss surgery.

That was enough to kick start me into looking at weight loss surgery more seriously. I don’t have the same medical issues my mother has yet that make her surgery more imperative but I do have my own medical issues that could be helped by weight loss surgery. Plus, it made sense to go through this process with someone else. A family that gets sliced and diced together stays together, right?

The fact that my mother and I both are going to do a weight loss surgery is probably the ONLY thing we have in common in this process. Well… that and our sense of humor about it. Go check out her blog at http://suzybytheounce.wordpress.com for her journey.

While I’m voluntarily headed for the lap-band, mom is not so voluntarily headed for gastric bypass. She started the process a week or so before me but since we have different doctors, her pre-surgery schedule isn’t that far ahead of mine. Since I’ve accompanied her to a few appointments to get a feel for what I’m about to face, I’m getting a double education and at times I still feel absolutely lost. Of course that lost feeling has led me to web surfing, book reading, food experimenting and absorbing everything I can get my grubby little hands on. I hate being out of the loop.

And not to sound like a used car salesman but “my loss is your gain”. I plan to share what I’ve discovered not only about the logistics of lap-band surgery and its outcome but about my personal process while going through it. I also get the unique perspective of witnessing the process of going through gastric bypass and how it may differ.

So here I am… getting ready for an adventure and taking you along for the ride. Be ready for every last (and maybe gross) detail, a few good recipes and maybe even a joke or two.

And thank you for coming on this ride with me. I appreciate your support.
